In depth — what this practice covers.

The long-form view of capability, regulator coverage and deployment model.

Energy distributors, IPPs and solar operators run on field data that rarely lines up with the back office. Meters drift, inspection crews work offline, EPC vendors invoice against milestones the finance team can't see, and regulator returns are stitched together in spreadsheets. Redian builds the operational software that ties the field, the asset register and the ledger into one trustworthy system of record.

What it does

Energy operators sit on three problems that conventional ERPs don't solve well: assets are geographically distributed, inspections happen in low-connectivity environments, and revenue depends on vendor and meter data that the finance team doesn't own. We build software that closes those gaps — mobile-first inspection apps that sync when a signal returns, asset and project trackers that follow a substation or a solar plant from sanction through commissioning, and vendor billing engines that reconcile EPC progress claims, O&M SLAs and meter-based settlement against contractual terms.

The result is a single operational backbone for distribution utilities, transmission licensees, rooftop and utility-scale solar developers, and C&I energy retailers — covering project execution, field operations, asset health, vendor settlement and regulatory reporting.

Where it fits

This is built for energy organisations that have outgrown spreadsheets and generic ERP modules but aren't ready to commit to a seven-figure utility suite. Typical buyers include:

  • State and private distribution companies running 50,000 to several million consumer connections
  • Rooftop and utility-scale solar developers managing 100+ sites across multiple states or countries
  • Independent power producers and transmission licensees tracking long-cycle capex projects
  • C&I energy retailers and ESCOs invoicing against meter reads and PPA terms
  • Energy ministries and regulators in African and South Asian markets that need a defensible asset and project register

We deliver across India, East and West Africa, the UK and the Gulf — regions where field connectivity, regulatory templates and vendor practices differ enough that off-the-shelf western utility software rarely fits without heavy customisation.

What we deliver

Project and capex tracking. Substation construction, feeder upgrades, solar plant commissioning, transmission line stringing — tracked at activity level with milestone payments, BoQ variance, and contractor performance against original sanction. Finance sees the same numbers the project manager sees.

Meter inspection and field apps. Offline-first Android tooling for meter reading, transformer inspection, DT failure capture, solar panel I-V curve recording and consumer indexing. Crews work without signal, sync at the end of the shift, and GPS-stamped photos sit against the asset for audit.

Asset register and health. Geo-tagged register of feeders, DTs, meters, panels, inverters, batteries and balance-of-system equipment. Failure history, warranty position and O&M contract coverage tied to each asset, so replacement and AMC decisions are made on data rather than vendor pitches.

Vendor and EPC billing. Milestone-based EPC progress claims, retention release, LD calculation, O&M SLA scoring and meter-settled energy invoices — reconciled against contractual terms. Routes vendor invoices through the same finance workflow as everything else, with audit trail.

Regulatory and MIS reporting. Configurable returns for state regulators, REC bodies and ministry MIS — AT&C loss reporting, distribution transformer failure rates, RPO compliance, generation declarations.

Consumer and revenue side, where required. New connection workflow, complaint and outage tracking, billing audit, and integration with existing CIS and SCADA platforms. We don't replace billing engines lightly — usually we surround them.

This sits naturally alongside our custom software development, AI/ML and digital transformation practices when operators want predictive failure models or computer-vision-assisted inspection layered on top.

Why Redian

Energy software fails for predictable reasons: vendors who don't understand field reality, generic ERPs that can't handle long-cycle capex with retention and LDs, and inspection apps built by teams who've never been on a 45-degree substation rooftop. We've delivered in distribution, solar and transmission environments across India and Africa, and our engineering practice is CMMI Level 3 appraised and ISO certified — which matters when the system has to survive a regulatory audit.

We bring the same delivery discipline that runs our BFSI and banking work — version-controlled releases, traceable requirements, secure SDLC — to a sector where most software is still delivered ad hoc. For operators building an in-house product or analytics team, our GCC setup and IT staff augmentation practices give you energy-aware engineers without rebuilding the recruiting function from scratch.

Working with Redian

A first engagement usually starts with a two-to-four week discovery: one of our solution leads walks the field with your team, maps the gaps between current systems and operational reality, and proposes a phased build with the highest-friction process going first.
